The West Virginia Chapter-in-Organization of the Community Associations Institute (CAI-WV) is committed to making its website accessible and usable for the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility, and we consider it as we design the site, publish content, and add new services.

Our Accessibility Goal

CAI-WV aims to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, where reasonably possible. These internationally recognized guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities and more usable for everyone.

Our website is published using Ghost and a custom CAI-WV theme. The platform, theme, content, and any third-party services all affect the accessibility of the finished website. Use of Ghost does not by itself guarantee that every page or feature conforms to WCAG.

Measures We Take

Our current website includes or supports:

  • A “Skip to content” link for keyboard and screen-reader users.
  • Semantic page structure, including headings, navigation regions, main content, and footer information.
  • Keyboard-operable navigation, search, links, buttons, and interactive county-map links.
  • Visible keyboard focus treatment for interactive county-map and directory elements.
  • Accessible names or labels for navigation, search, social-media links, forms, sponsor links, and other controls.
  • Responsive layouts intended to remain usable on phones, tablets, and larger screens.
  • Reduced-motion support for visitors whose devices are set to minimize animation.
  • Text alternatives for informative images added to posts and pages. Decorative or intentionally repeated images may use an empty text alternative so screen readers do not announce unnecessary content.
  • A text-based county directory in addition to the interactive West Virginia county map.
  • Descriptive headings and link text intended to make pages easier to understand and navigate.

CAI-WV staff and contributors are expected to add meaningful alternative text when they upload informative images. We also work to use clear headings, readable text, sufficient color contrast, descriptive links, and accessible formats when publishing new material.

Documents, Video, Audio, and Embedded Content

We work to make documents and multimedia accessible when reasonably possible. This may include using properly structured documents, captions, transcripts, descriptive text, or an accessible web-page alternative. If a document, recording, or other resource is not accessible to you, please contact us so we can help provide the information in another reasonable format.

Some features or content may be supplied by Ghost or by third parties, including membership and subscription tools, search, calendars, forms, videos, maps, social-media services, sponsor websites, and links to the national Community Associations Institute. CAI-WV does not control every aspect of those services, but we welcome reports of barriers and will address matters within our control or contact the responsible provider when appropriate.

Ongoing Improvement

Accessibility practices and technologies continue to evolve. CAI-WV periodically reviews its website and updates its content and theme as issues are identified. We have not represented that every page or third-party feature satisfies every WCAG success criterion, and this statement should not be read as a certification resulting from a formal third-party accessibility audit.
