West Virginia is a state of extraordinary natural beauty, enduring communities, and people known for independence, resilience, practical problem-solving, and loyalty to place. The Community Associations Institute – West Virginia Chapter-in-Organization (CAI-WV) exists to bring those strengths to community association living. We unite the people who lead, manage, advise, and serve homeowners associations, condominium associations, and housing cooperatives throughout the Mountain State.
CAI-WV is part of Community Associations Institute (CAI), an international organization with more than 50,000 members and 65 chapters worldwide. That relationship gives West Virginians access to proven education, professional credentials, research, publications, model practices, and a broad network of community-association experience. CAI-WV then makes those resources useful here—through a distinctly West Virginia network, statewide advocacy, local knowledge, and programs shaped by the communities we call home.
Built for the Mountain State
CAI-WV is proudly rooted in West Virginia and shaped by the character, strengths, and needs of the Mountain State. Our state’s mountains, river valleys, small towns, growing population centers, and destination communities create a distinctive community-association landscape. West Virginia includes professionally managed and self-managed associations; urban condominiums and rural subdivisions; resort, lake, and mountain communities; and neighborhoods responsible for private roads, shared infrastructure, common land, and essential services.
West Virginia’s size and neighborly culture are also advantages. People know the value of local knowledge, personal trust, volunteer service, and helping a neighbor solve a practical problem. CAI-WV can connect that homegrown experience across all 55 counties, bring national expertise into the state, develop West Virginia expertise, and make sure communities of every size have a voice.

West Virginia’s official Latin motto, Montani Semper Liberi—“Mountaineers Are Always Free”—captures the independent spirit at the heart of the state. For CAI-WV, that freedom does not mean leaving every association or volunteer leader to struggle alone. It means giving homeowners and leaders the knowledge, professional support, and trusted connections to make informed local decisions, protect individual rights, meet shared responsibilities, and govern their communities fairly. Education strengthens self-government; collaboration helps preserve local control.
Who We Serve
CAI-WV members include association board members and other homeowner leaders, community managers, association management firms, attorneys, accountants, reserve specialists, insurance professionals, contractors, and other business partners whose products and services support community associations. We welcome both experienced professionals and volunteers who are learning how to serve their communities more effectively.
How CAI-WV Serves West Virginia
Education and Professional Development. We offer and promote seminars, workshops, conferences, webinars, and other learning opportunities for volunteer leaders, community managers, and business partners. We also connect members with CAI’s education and credential pathways for community-association professionals.
Trusted Resources and Best Practices. We help members find and apply reliable guidance on community governance, financial stewardship, maintenance, risk management, communications, legal compliance, and other issues that affect common-interest communities.
Public Policy and Advocacy. We monitor state and local issues affecting community associations, educate policymakers and the public, and advocate for practical public policy that supports responsible governance, protects homeowners, and recognizes the needs of West Virginia communities.
Connection and Collaboration. We create opportunities for homeowner leaders, managers, and business partners to exchange knowledge, solve problems, build professional relationships, and learn from communities across the state and the wider CAI network.
West Virginia-Focused Solutions. We focus attention on issues that take particular forms in the Mountain State, including the needs of volunteer-led and self-managed associations, private roads and shared infrastructure, resort and rural communities, emergency readiness, reserve planning, insurance, and access to qualified professional support.
Statewide Reach and County Connection. We work to connect leaders and resources across West Virginia’s 55 counties so that geography does not determine whether a community can find sound information, capable partners, or a meaningful voice in public policy.
Stronger Communities. We support the volunteers and professionals whose daily work helps associations remain financially sound, well maintained, transparent, fair, and responsive to the people who call them home.
What We Believe
We believe homeowners associations, condominium associations, and housing cooperatives should strive to meet and exceed the reasonable expectations of their residents. We work toward that goal by identifying and responding to the evolving needs of the people who serve associations, providing a trusted forum for the exchange of knowledge and ideas, and helping our members learn, achieve, and excel.
